Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Domaine Henri Magnien is a prestigious Burgundy winery with a long winemaking tradition, now led by Charles Magnien, the family's twelfth-generation winemaker. The estate, located in Gevrey-Chambertin, is renowned for its exceptional wines and for giving its name to a Pinot Noir clone (Pinot Magnien, a unique mutation discovered in 1850). The Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from a small vineyard of approximately 0.26 hectares located in the Premier Cru Lavaux-Saint-Jacques appellation, west of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines enjoy an east-southeast exposure and are rooted in clay soil on a rocky substratum rich in fossils. After vinification, partly with whole bunches, the finished wine ages in oak (30-40% new) for 18-20 months. The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques Henri Magnien has a broad and elegant aromatic profile with fruity notes of plum, cherry, and ripe strawberry intertwined with floral aromas of rose petals and lavender, and delicate touches of spice and earthiness. On the palate, it is rich and complex, juicy and generous, with a medium-full body and a lively, refreshing acidity. The tannins are smooth, and the finish is long and mineral. Leave it in the cellar for a few years or enjoy it now with rabbit stew, roast goat, or truffled quail.
