Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. The Piedmontese Luigi Baudana winery is located in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba. Founded in 1996, the company actually has even older roots. The name of this historic local family also corresponds to the name of a hamlet and a prestigious cru in the district. Production is managed by the Vajra family. The Nebbiolo grapes, from the Lampia and Michet biotypes, come from Baudana, one of Serralunga d'Alba's most prestigious crus, located north of Parafada and Lazzarito on the western slope. Here, the vines enjoy a unique combination of soils for the area, with Lequio formations and fossil Sant'Agata marls. Over the years, this cru had been almost abandoned, but today it has returned to its former splendor, producing wines of great depth. After harvesting and fermentation in truncated cone-shaped vats, the Barolo Baudana ages in large Slavonian barrels of various sizes for approximately 23 months. In the glass, the wine reveals an intense and brilliant color, with deep ruby ​ hues. Its aromatic profile is broad and generous, with elegant fruity notes of pomegranate, raspberry, and blueberry interspersed with floral hints of violet and touches of lavender and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is taut and energetic, with a medium body and fine tannins. It has an elegant complexity of flavor and well-balanced acidity. The finish is long and persistent, with light herbaceous and licorice notes. Enjoy it with wild boar stew.
